“An intoxicating fusion of folk, pop, soul and rock.” - Earmilk / Named “2025 Artists to Watch”

Introduction

Classically-trained cellist and singer-songwriter Dan Radin is on a mission to entertain and delight audiences by reinventing the role of the cello in popular music.

The folk-neoclassical-acoustic rock fusion is fueled by disarming lyrics and his signature “lead cello,” getting compared often to 2000’s singer-songwriters like John Mayer and Dave Matthews with symphonic textures.

Official Bio

Since moving to Austin, Texas in 2015, cellist Dan Radin has earned a reputation for being a go-to hired gun sideman in the scene.  He’s backed The Voice contestants, played in bands opening for Grammy/Tony winners, and performed at official SXSW showcases.  This year, the cellist decided to reveal himself to the world as an equally-capable singer-songwriter and frontman with the release of his first solo album, “Romance for Antiheroes.”

Radin was introduced to cello lessons in 3rd grade through a school program, which subsequently thrust him into a comprehensive classical music education.  While in college, Radin began to sit in with folk bands and singer-songwriters, learning to leverage his relative pitch to play by ear and improvise cello solos like a lead guitarist.  He moved to Austin after graduation, where he’s since gigged aggressively (Radin estimates nearly 1000 performances).  To fill any gaps in his schedule, Radin began side-hustling as a guitarist/singer.

Gradually becoming more comfortable with a frontman role, the cellist decided it was time to share his own original music with the world.  Radin’s vision of cello-led acoustic rock prominently displays his singer-songwriter roots, garnering frequent comparisons to John Mayer and Dave Matthews.  Radin’s debut solo album, “Romance for Antiheroes,” is a collection of songs documenting failed relationships; however, at its core, the album is a coming out party for a shy cellist who has begun to come into his own as a full-fledged artist.

Story Behind the Music

For most of his music career, cellist Dan Radin was known for being a wildly inventive, reliable, and yet, hard-partying, sideman. In 2022, he cleaned up his act; he got sober, decided to start performing as his own frontman, and quit his corporate sales job to rededicate his life to music.

Putting both his sobriety and business acumen on display, Radin’s been on a tear since: in just his first year as a full-time artist, seeing successes like self-booking 2 national tours, putting out out 2 songs a month, producing a dozen music videos, raising 180% of an album crowdsourcing campaign, releasing his debut album - all while gigging full-time to fund the next ventures.

About the Album

Radin’s debut solo album, “Romance for Antiheroes,” is a collection of songs documenting failed relationships that forced him to inquisitively look in the mirror as a single adult.  Part artistic endeavor/part self-prescribed therapy, the cellist’s storytelling unearths his acute awareness of sabotaging his romantic life from the inside-out.  Radin drapes his heartbreak and confusion in 00’s singer-songwriter rock a la John Mayer and Dave Matthews. The album is being released one song at a time for 9 months, when the full record drops in April.
